Tips to Staying Stress Free at Work

Tips to staying stress free at work

Many people get stressed at work, and it can have a serious effect on your productivity levels as well as your health and wellbeing. So how can you keep stress at bay while you are at your desk? Here are some quick and effective tips for reducing stress and staying calm all day long.

Stand up regulary

Sitting down at a desk for hours every day is not natural. We spend a lot of our waking lives sitting down, and if you sit at your desk for too long every day this can affect your posture and have an effect on your stress levels.

A simple way to combat stress and stay healthy is to stand up regularly. Don't stay sat at your desk for more than half an hour at a time if you can help it. Stand up, walk to the other side of the office and back, stretch and change positions, and this can help to keep you stress free and pain free during the day.

Eat a healthy diet

The importance of eating healthily can often be forgotten, but try to make time to eat well. Try to eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and nuts during the day to keep hunger at bay and keep you alert rather than constantly eating unhealthy snacks that can negatively affect your mood.

If you cook a healthy meal in the evening, try to cook a bit extra and put it aside for your lunch the following day. That way you won't have to resort to a large, unhealthy sandwich at lunchtime and you still won't have to make much extra effort to prepare it.

Go out on you lunch break

If you have a lunch break, use it. Don't stay sat in front of your computer, but instead go out for a walk. It's important to get some time outside the office during your working day. If you get into the routine of staying in the office all day, you could find your stress levels starting to rise. So get out, walk around the area, visit the local park and make some time to relax.

Plan your day in advance

Stress often becomes worse when you feel out of control due to all the work that is piling up on your desk and the emails demanding a response. Sometimes we all have these days, but do your best to stay in control by planning your day ahead.

Make a list of all the important tasks to do, plan when you are going to do them, and try to set some extra time aside for doing the unexpected tasks that inevitably turn up. It can help to provide you with more control over your day, which can have a positive effect on stress levels.

Learn breathing exercises

There are many ways to lose stress, and the above is just a small selection. For example, you could also learn some breathing exercises or make some time to meditate every day to keep a check on your stress levels. One thing that can also have a large effect on stress is lack of sleep, so make sure you are getting enough sleep every night to keep stress at bay.
