Team Building
Unsurprisingly perhaps, it would seem that team building was an idea that originated in the United States and then gradually came across to the UK market.
‘Team bonding activities’ are not everybody’s cup of tea and not every company can afford to take all its employees out for a day or even an afternoon if it means closing the company. If you hold a team building event in an evening or weekend, then the company is taking up employee’s personal time, some of which will resent this and if they don’t go then it doesn’t help the whole idea of team building.
Here are a few ideas for how to increase your team’s bond using something as simple as office furniture and management ideas without leaving the office:
• Place offices desks closer to each other so it is easier for workers to communicate without interrupting each other when on the phone for example
• Use employees to get feedback about how the company is run and how the office is designed
• Hold regular team meetings away from the office desks and the phones
• Make sure everybody has the same office furniture so everybody seems equal, and make sure everyone is listened to
• On a Friday or a particularly stressful afternoon, bring in a few cakes or biscuits – that always gets people talking and cheers them up
