Office Team Building
How many people hate the term ‘team building’? It is a concept that has been used in the corporate world for years, but seems to have died down a little.
One off team building events are not sufficient, as it should be an ongoing process. Units of people that work or play together form bonds and learn to think alike, or know how each other thinks.
To encourage team building in the office, begin by ensuring the office desks are in the right places. They should be close enough for workers to communicate without obstructing their concentration.
Before changing the office furniture or moving it round, consult with the group. Getting their input helps them to bond with each other and with the manager.
Avoid favouritism, for example having your office chair next to one employee’s office desk all day. This can give a negative impact to the rest of the team.
Hold team meetings away from the office desks, preferably off the office premises completely, on neutral ground. Team meetings are important to build morale and encourage communication between management and workers.
